Family Values

Family Values

Abraham Lincoln said that "The strength of a nation lies in the homes of its people". Below are links to several documents that Mary and I have been putting together since the mid 90's. They are an attempt to define what we believe and are based on God's word. We have used these values over the years as the basis for the decisions we have made  as a couple, as parents, and as followers of Christ. The first document, the 'Levy Core Values' is a one page consolidation of the four most important family values that we live by as a family and have tried to instill in our sons. The second document, the 'Levy Family Values' is a more exhaustive and detailed attempt to define what the biblical position is on various issues facing families today in America.  The third document, 'Twenty Things I Want to Tell My Sons' is a web based document that was inspired by a small book of similar title (no author is listed on the book). I started reading the book, and felt that I really needed to do my own twenty things rather than use theirs (I did borrow a few from the book).

Below that are links to various things God has downloaded into our lives over the years that were meaningful enough to us that we wrote them down. All of these documents are home grown, and I am no theologian so I probably got a few things wrong. (Please read with a grain of salt.) If there are any serious errors in any of the documents, please let me know and I will revise it. To access the document you are interested in just click on it.

Below that are some of the books that have influenced us the most, both recently and in the past.  At the bottom of the page are some of the biblical manhood studies I have done that have affected our family the most positively and that I would recommend for others who are interested in pursuing a relationship with God and learning more about biblical manhood.  One study not listed was called "Dad the Family Shepherd", and unfortunately it is no longer available.

Values really do matter.  If we drift with the culture and its values, our marriages and children are pretty much doomed because of the current all out moral free-for-all we find ourselves living in right now in America.  Eventually, we may even regret most of our life, looking back from our deathbed over a life of bad decisions, regrets and a poorly lived life in general.  But if we integrate godly values into our lives, and base our daily decisions on those values, it will make a difference.  Psalm 1 talks about the man who does not go along with the culture's values but rather delights in God's values, saying that he will be like a fruitful tree planted beside streams of water.  By living according to God's values, which can be found in His word, our life becomes a blessing to those around us.  We encourage you to choose this path, to choose to delight in God's values in your life.  We believe you, your family and everyone around you will be the better for it.  It is your choice.
